Whole School:

There are children with severe nut allergies in our school. We ask that you do not send any nuts or products containing nuts in lunchboxes or snacks. This includes items such as peanuts, peanut butter, mixed nuts, and products that contain nuts as an ingredient. All staff have recently been trained in anaphylaxis and allergy training in compliance with Benedict’s law.

Our school fete is tomorrow! There will be something for everyone, including a bouncy castle, food and drinks, fun stalls, a raffle, petting zoo, and lots of other exciting entertainment. We look forward to seeing you there!

We would like to invite all parents and children who are interested in applying for places at Eastover School in September 2027, to come along, have a look around the school and meet us on the following dates:

Thursday 24th September at 10:30am

Tuesday 29th September at 5pm

Wednesday 30th September at 2pm

If you would like to book a visit, please call 01278 422693 or email office@eastoverschool.co.uk

Applications for school places can only be made online at Somerset Council. If your child is born between 1st September 2022 – 31st August 2023 you can apply via the portal. It will be open for applications from the 28th September 2026. Please log into: https://www.somerset.gov.uk/children-families-and-education/applying-for-school/

The closing date for applications is the 15th January 2027.

Flu Vaccinations (for all year groups – Reception through to Year 6) will be on the 30th September 2026

The NHS school nurses will be visiting on the above date to deliver the vaccination programme (by way of a nasal spray), for all children.

A letter which explains the immunisation programme has been sent out via email. Please complete the consent form (one for each child) using the link that will be in the body of the letter or as below.

https://www.somersetsaint.co.uk/Forms/Flu

Unique school code: (Eastover Primary School) unique code SM123679

Please be aware that if your child follows a Halal diet, you should select "No" on the consent form, as the nasal flu vaccine contains pork gelatine.

If you would still like your child to receive a flu vaccination, please select "Yes" for the IM (injection) vaccination option. The School Nursing Team will then send you an invitation to attend an appointment in the community, where the injectable vaccine can be administered.

September’s Sticky Questions…

Year 1: Would a giraffe make a good pirate?

Year 2: If you hear a song in a language you don’t know, can you still understand it?

Year 3: Is it ok to pay other people to do our chores?

Year 4: Does our planet belong to us?

Year 5: Does time go on forever?

Year 6: Would it be better to have fewer, larger countries or more, smaller countries?

Important notes for year groups:

Year 1:

There will be a reading and phonics workshop on Friday 6th November at 2.15 in the hall.  This is to help you understand how we teach reading and phonics.

Parents are then invited to their child’s class to watch a phonics lesson in action week beginning 9th November (Monday-Thursday) at 9-9.30. You will be able to sign up for this on the 6th at the workshop.

Year 3:

Please ensure your child comes to school with their swimming kit and towel on Monday. If you have not yet made payment, please do so via the MCAS app at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your support.
