Foundation Stage - Spider & Butterfly Class

Welcome back to the summer term in Foundation Stage!

This week half term our topic is about Minibeasts and Animals and we have been reading a story called The Tadpoles Promise. We have been learning about how a tadpole changes into a froglet and we have been keen to observe how our own tadpoles are changing quickly now!

We have enjoyed looking at the projects many of us completed over the Easter holidays and looking at many photographs of how we have changed since we were babies.

In maths we have been singing the rhyme about five monkeys jumping on the bed. We have been talking about how we make five and putting two numbers together to make five and showing this on a ten frame e.g. 3 and 2 equals 5.

Next week our story is Oi Frog!

Welcome to Foundation Stage 2021

We have two classes in Foundation Stage. Spiders Class has two teachers called Mrs Irish and Mrs Fisher and Butterfly's class teacher is called Miss Dockerty. Ms Brogdan, Mrs Sellick, Miss Turner also work in Foundation Stage.

Spring 1 Wonderful Wintery Woodlands

We will be exploring the natural world next term with some famous stories! The Gruffalo and Percy the Park Keeper to name a couple. We will be learning about woodland animals and their habitats too. Later in the term we will be thinking about different celebrations such as Chinese New Year and Pancake Day.

Parent Workshop Information

Here are some helpful leaflets to support your child's reading at home.

Every week the children will bring home two reading books, one will be scheme books where the children will apply the phonic sounds that they have learnt that week and the other will be a sharing book. Please look at the inside front cover together as this will show you which sounds will be practised in their books.

Reading needs to be recorded in their reading record and it is expected that children read 5 times a week.

Children will bring home key words to practise. These are common exception words and it is expected that children are able to read and spell them all by the end of the year. These will be assessed weekly in school and children will be given the next card when they are able to read and spell the words.

Reception Baseline Assessment 2021

When your child starts school they will be asked to complete some activities linked to language, reading and maths. This is a national assessment for all 4 year olds. The activities are devised with children in mind and are completed with the teacher. All the information linked to this assessment is in the leaflet below. Any questions please see your class teacher.

A mini tour of Eastover Primary School

Welcome to Eastover Primary School - this is a short tour, led by two of our Y6 pupils, of the main areas your child will experience in their first year at our school.

To all our new children and their parents/carers. We are excited to welcome you to Eastover Primary School. You should receive your letter with the induction dates this week (beginning 19th April).

This is an exciting time and the start of another milestone in your child/children's life.

With Covid things are a little different than normal and we will try to post information on this page every couple of weeks.
