Year 3 Autumn Curriculum Letter
We hope you all had a lovely summer. In Lions you will find Mrs Larson, Mrs Hoppins, Mrs Searle, Mrs Verncombe and Mr Thomas. In Tigers, we welcome Mrs Halley who will work with Mrs Sellick, Mrs Brady and Mrs Addicott. If you have any concerns feel free to catch us either before or after school.
Children do not need to come into class before school.
Your child may wish to have a snack at break and we encourage them to have a healthy one. No sweets please. Also ensure your child has a water bottle for class and separate drink in their lunchbox.
Our maths focus for this term is place value and addition and subtraction. Children will continue to learn their times tables (3x, 4x and 8x) to ensure they are confident. They will do daily tables revision. Children will reason and problem solve in each lesson. Maths homework will be to practise times tables at home (TT Rockstars or Hit the Button).
We will learn the story of the Stone Age Boy and his adventures linked to our topic on the Stone Age. We will write instructions and explanation texts. Guided reading and SPaG will take place daily. Children will continue to work on common exception words which they need to read and spell (these will be send home and tested weekly).
In RE the children will explore what Christians believe about God and Incarnation.
Art and DT
We will explore cave paintings and make petroglyphs. We will design and make pop-up cards.
Reading and Spelling
Book bags must be brought in each day. We encourage children to read and learn the common exception words every night. They will be rewarded for their hard work so please write a comment in their reading record books (and sign every day). Books not handed in, or signed, will be recorded as the child having not read.
Children will explore Scratch, QR codes and safe searching alongside e-safety.
We will learn about the Stone Age and how life changed in Britain. The children will visit Cheddar Gorge Caves on the 20th September.
After half term we will explore weather climate and how it affects us.
This term the children will develop their knowledge of rocks and fossils. We will identify different types of rocks and their characteristics. After half term we will explore magnets and forces.
Full kit is required to be in school all week as there may be changes to the timetable. Tigers will have PE with Mr Irish on Tuesdays and Lions will have PE on Fridays. Details about swimming lessons will follow.
